Watch “Life With Dignity”

December 25th, 2017 , by

“Life With Dignity” is a music video set to Helado Negro’s remix of “Death With Dignity” from Sufjan’s recently released The Greatest Gift mixtape.

The music video captures moments from the lives of Roland, Justin, and Theresa. Roland is 85, a former jazz historian and a Korean War veteran. Justin is an eight-year old student. He loves Legos. Theresa is 35, a pasta chef, a drummer. All are facing cancer in very different stages, and facing it in different ways, but each is living their life with dignity.

We discovered these three people with the generous help of the Cancer Support Community. Proceeds from the sale of  The Greatest Gift are going to support the Cancer Support Community, and you can join us by giving here.

November 23rd, 2017 , by

Sufjan has animated “The Greatest Gift,” the title track from his forthcoming mixtape.

The Greatest Gift comes out Friday on digital and cassette, and December 8th on vinyl, but you can listen to the full album now, thanks to NPR’s First Listen series. Hear it here.

Lyrics:

Praise the mountain and the rain
All the gifts that still remain
But the greatest gift of all
And the law above all laws
Is to love your friends and lovers
And lay down your life for your brothers
As you abide in peace
So will your delight increase

As the mystery of the cross
Asa Lovejoy lost the toss
And the fountain in the rain
Where my sorrow still remains
So I run to my friends and lovers
I lay down my life for my brothers
As I abide in peace
So will my delight increase
