A STATEMENT FROM ASTHMATIC KITTY AND DC COMICS
October 4th, 2005 , by Asthmatic Kitty
It has been reported that DC Comics sent a cease and desist letter to Asthmatic Kitty regarding Sufjan Steven’s album “Illinois.” Not so. Asthmatic Kitty was alerted by their own lawyers of the potential copyright infringment. Therefore, Asthmatic Kitty asked retailers not to sell Sufjan Stevens’ record until the situation could be resolved. DC Comics and Asthmatic Kitty have since reached an agreement that allows Asthmatic Kitty to sell the already manufactured records with cover artwork featuring Superman. The Superman image will be removed from future pressings of the album.

YOU GOT SPIRIT – BOWERY BALLROOM
August 28th, 2005 , by Asthmatic Kitty
A million thanks for all who came out and celebrated the unprecedented five-show marathon at the Bowery Ballroom with Sufjan Stevens and the Illinoisemakers. We hope that beyond all the drills and thrills and gimmicks and cheerleader routines, your heart was met with extraordinary changes.
Congratulations to Kitty St. Marie and Craig Hecht who were crowned Homecoming Queen and King. It was NOT a fixed election, as has been reported in Nick Sylvester’s generous, imaginative review. Sufjan’s bass player is, in fact, 100 percent genetic engineering.
A hundred thanks to all AK bands who did their very very best on stage (Castanets, Half-handed Cloud, Bunky, and Liz Janes), and also to Smoosh and Feathers, for clapping, singing, dancing, and rock-n-rolling with us. A trillion thanks to the Danielson Famile for showing us how it’s done. And all gratefulness to the staff at the Bowery for making us ALL feel like Homecoming Queens. Deep inside, we are royalty.
FARM-BOY TURNED SHREDDER MAKES GOOD
August 25th, 2005 , by Asthmatic Kitty
Asthmatic Kitty is proud to announce our first venture into the realm of skateboarding. We are officially sponsoring rural skateboarding phenom, Austin Aalsma of Waupun, Wisconsin. Austin has been developing his skills in the rural outreaches of Wisconsin for a full third of his life. You would think that being born and raised in farmland Wisconsin would not foster a skate punk’s life. You’d be wrong. Austin recently built a half-pipe with his father and was involved in applying for a grant to build a skate park in his local town. He and his fellow applicants recently found out they received the grant. Perhaps Waupun will be the next San Jose? You really gleamed the cube on that one Austin! Given his efforts and skills, we at Asthmatic Kitty want to support Austin’s efforts with this sponsorship and wish him all the best in his career.
Liz Janes Will Hush Your Weary Heart to Sleep!
June 22nd, 2005 , by Asthmatic Kitty
Liz Janes & Create(!) join forces to render a beautiful collection of public domain songs, which will be available on CD soon. Minimalist guitars, ambient drones, and nuanced drum-brushes accompany Liz’s hushed contra alto vocal stylings. The recording relinquishes all the bells and whistles from Liz’s previous recordings, augmenting instead the understated elements of Negro spirituals, love ballads, and traditional folk songs we know so well. Pull up the blankets and listen carefully. There is someone singing in your ear.
Track listing:
Lonesome Valley
Be My Husband
All the Pretty Horses
Jesus is a Dying Bed-maker
Run Ol’ Jeremiah/Keep Your Hands on the Plow
Careless Love
