JIB KIDDER RELEASES

April 17th, 2011 , by

Library Catalog contributor, Jib Kidder, created his volume Music for Hypnotized Minds solely from samples of previous Asthmatic Kitty releases. He has taken this one step further and created a music video for his track "Blue" using nothing but samples of Asthmatic Kitty videos. True to it's name, the video is quite blue. Sufjan fans might even recognize a particular strum. We think you will enjoy. So please do!

TODAY IS RECORD STORE DAY 2011

April 16th, 2011 , by

It seems that each year there are more and more "Days." Thanks, Hallmark. But one that we've been celebrating with gusto since its first year in 2008 is Record Store Day. And with Ozzy Osbourne as this year's Official Ambassador, there is even more reason to celebrate.

If you're so inclined, you can locate your nearest record store here. At that point you'll have to stop clicking things though and walk out your door. Take the bus, walk, ride your bike, drive your car – eventually you'll get there. You'll probably be greeted by a friendly smile and maybe get something free-ish inside. That's what happens on Days. But we'd recommend finding music you like and then purchasing it with dollar bills (or a card). You'll be glad you did. It's fun holding something real in your hands.

MY BRIGHTEST DIAMOND IN PROJECT FROM MURAT EYUBOGLU

April 14th, 2011 , by

Shara Worden, of our own My Brightest Diamond, is appearing in many places; most recently on a recent release from multi-media artist Murat Eyuboglu entitled Letters to Distant Cities. With the project, Murat explores the poetry of Turkish-American poet Mustafa Ziyala, and brings his work into synchronicity with music, photography, video, and illustration, using the talents of Shara, as well as Clare Mulduar (of Clare & the Reasons) and Rob Moose of yMusic. The album, released on March 29th, includes 24 photographic illustrations of each one of Ziyala's poems, several videos, and the CD, which itself includes readings of the poetry by Shara (in English).

You can view the video above, and then purchase the album from New Amsterdam Records here.

HELADO NEGRO ON BENEFIT COMP FOR JAPAN

April 5th, 2011 , by

Helado Negro's "Cabeza Bella" is the second track on Benefit for the Recovery of Japan, a mammoth but brilliantly curated compilation featuring the likes of Fennesz, Akron/Family, Tape, Prefuse 73, Tim Hecker, Sam Prekop, and band members from TV on the Radio, Deerhunter, and many, many others. The quality and breadth of the compilation's artists, and the efficiency record label Antopic demonstrated in putting this together is really something. The comp is a testament of the way people from across the globe can come together and help in time of need. All proceeds go to the Civic Force in Japan.

We highly recommend you purchasing the compilation here for $15.

SUFJAN STEVENS TO PLAY PROSPECT PARK IN AUGUST

April 4th, 2011 , by

Summer in Brooklyn: friends, fireflies, stoop sales, racial tension, black-outs, car theft, homicide, real estate busts, and…Celebrate Brooklyn! Where the World's Greatest Borough puts on the World's Greatest Summer Festival in the World's Greatest Urban Park. That's what we call Prospect Park!

Our Very Own Megalomaniac Master of Musical Disguises Sufjan Stevens will be making a rare outdoor appearance at the infamous bandshell on Tuesday August 2, 2011 for the annual Celebrate Brooklyn! festival. He'll be performing with his 10-piece intergalactic ensemble of musical muppets from the Age of Adz tour. What does that mean for you? Do the math: Prog-pop space jams + extra-terrestrial dancers + excessive neon gaff tape + cosmic eurhythmy + hot booty moves + a frenetic video display + hometown advantage = Life Affirming Summer Spectacular Event of a Lifetime (and other superlatives).

Did we already say it's outdoors? Under the Brooklyn sky, surrounded by sycamores and flickering fireflies, and city smog…This is a rare treat! Sufjan does not typically play outdoor stages. Nor does he have any festival appearances scheduled for 2011. This is your last chance to see Adz in all its glory! And we promise it will be a total blow-out!

Tickets for the show are will go on sale for general public on Friday, but you can get special preorder tickets for $35 (+fees) from Etix on Wednesday April 6th. Those tickets will be at this link at 10AM EST April 6th: http://bit.ly/gauVaq. The password is (whisper): Heirloom.

INFINITIROCK AND LEB LAZE EXPAND THE LIBRARY CATALOG

March 29th, 2011 , by

The Library Catalog Music Series is a lot like the sun; it grows ever larger all the time, absorbing more and more life situations into the repertoire of the Library Catalog. With just a few additional releases, the light of the Library Catalog will shine upon every single one of your life situations. At that point you will have no choice but to score your life with music.

The addition by Leb Laze, Music for Troubled Machinery, is the equivalent of a mecho-technical freakout. Imagine R2D2 on steroid withdrawl while tight-rope-walking at a circus. And pulling it off with style (leave your anachronistic booster jets in the closet Lucas).

Clocking in as the fourteenth LibCat release, InfinitiRock adds the meta-rific Music for Primordial Recollection. It's as much a statement on the meaning of music as it is music. But if you think you're going to be listening to this on headphones while reading Kant you've got the wrong idea bud. Think less headphones and more dance floor, and less Kant and more asking your best friend to move and groove with you because you've had a secret crush on him or her for the last six years. That's Primordial.

You can stream them in entirity for free, but to truly integrate the music into your lifestream, you're just going to have to pocket up and buy them. Trouble Machinery is here and Primordial is here
