Meg Lui Releases Second Single “Miss Queen Know It All”
Meg Lui’s new single, “Miss Queen Know It All,” is out now, with an accompanying lyric video by Gabriela Sibilska, The Wild Honey Pie. The track, produced by Sufjan Stevens and Keenan O’Meara (who also contribute background vocals), is about the version of herself who thought she knew better than her parents, and how hard that voice can be to shake. Now a parent herself, she hears the song differently: “It’s basically about being a shithead to my parents and battling that little kid voice inside me that rears her fussy head every once in a while. It’s realizing that no matter how much time passes and the flaws that are discovered within one’s parents that they did their best with what they had at the time. Now that I’m on this new crazy journey of being a mom and a parent I often joke that it will probably all come full circle at some point for me. But I think the only thing to do is to keep showing up with love, try to be present, and have him send me the therapy bills when the time comes.”

Raised just outside of Folsom, California, Meg grew up on her older brother’s eclectic CD collection and began turning her journal entries into songs at age eight. “I remember hiding in my closet and singing into a little handheld tape recorder my dad got for me,” says Lui, who also cultivated her love of music as part of her education at Waldorf school. She spent her high-school years making music—including taking up guitar, playing cello in the school orchestra, and singing in an all-girl rock band that mainly covered classic ‘70s rock songs—before heading to Berklee with the intention of honing her craft as a songwriter. “I ended up leaving with a little less than a year left, mostly because I couldn’t keep going into debt,” she says. “But even though I didn’t graduate, it really didn’t matter, I met so many amazing people, including some musicians I still work with today.
