THE WELCOME WAGON TO PLAY AT FOUNT OF MERCY BENEFIT

December 4th, 2009 , by

Christmas looms! Singer, songwriter, and Brooklyn resident Sarah Lentz is organizing her sixth annual Christmas Benefit Concert. This year the concert benefits Fount of Mercy, an organization that takes funds and puts them right in the hands of African organizations that care for orphans and children.
And The Welcome Wagon will be among the many playing, alongside Tom Conlon, Susan Enan, Kelley McRae, Sarah Fullen Gregory, The Gregory Brothers, Bearden Coleman, Lee Kizer, Jas Knight, Kevin Gosa, Carey Wallace, Adam Browne and Kyle Olsen.
Suggested donation is $10, more if you can. The concert is this Saturday, December 5 at 7pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New York City. Details are on the Facebook Event page here.

THE WELCOME WAGON: NOT SOLD OUT ON YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN

April 14th, 2009 , by

Welcome Wagon performances are rare things. That’s probably why their next performance at Space 38-39, by the International Arts Movement, is now sold out.

But don’t worry: through the powers of the Internets, you can watch it live, as it happens! Tune in here 7:30PM EST, April 16th, and watch. It will almost be like being there, only in two dimensions (on a small screen).

And if you’re the planning sort, you should plan to go to Miller Chapel on Princeton Theological Seminary’s campus for their show on the 17th. Details here.

WELCOME TO VINYL, WELCOME TO THE WELCOME WAGON

January 27th, 2009 , by

If you’re one of the record-player-owning-types (like ourselves), and you enjoy approachable gospel duets (like we do), you should know that The Welcome Wagon’s debut album, Welcome to the Welcome Wagon is now available on vinyl for $12.99. Buy it here.

Sufjan Stevens, who produced the album and helped a little here and there, is providing a track-by-track written documentary on our newly relaunched Sidebar. Read it here.

And finally, if the virtual and vinyl don’t quite do it for you, you can catch The Welcome Wagon in Brooklyn at Southpaw, supporting Andy Friedman & The Other Failures at their release party on Thursday, January 29th.

THE WELCOME WAGON RELEASES A RECORD, IN BROOKLYN

The Welcome Wagon will release their first album ever next week, and we are the better record label for it. It’s been in our musical playback devices for some time now, and we’re very happy to finally let everyone else lend a listen.

You can buy the CD right now for $10 (+S&H) by clicking here.

Next week The Welcome Wagon will be playing with a well-stocked backup band at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn (map here), at 8pm Tuesday December 9th. Fellow Brooklynites Andy Friedman & The Other Failures will open. Tickets are $10 at the door, or $8 if you bring along a canned good for the Southside Food Pantry.

So, here’s the truth: The Welcome Wagon does not tour much. Like most of us, their lives don’t necessarily lend themselves to a hectic tour schedule. When they schedule a show, it’s a rarity. All that to say: if you find yourself near St. Paul’s on Wednesday night, you owe it to yourself to go. It’ll be a treat.
