FILMMAKER OF MAKE CURATING ROYAL ROBERTSON SHOW
2011-10-20

This Friday night in New York City at White Columns gallery, Scott Ogden is curating a show entitled NO PROUD BASTARDS, an in-depth consideration of work by Louisiana artist Prophet Royal Robertson (1931-1997). Robertson’s art is an integral part of the MAKE documentary film, which Scott Ogden and Malcolm Hearn created over the course of many years. Royal Robertson’s art also served as inspiration for Sufjan Stevens’ The Age of Adz.

This will be a rare opportunity to see Royal's art in person. The show opening is Friday, October 21st from 6pm to 8pm at White Columns

You can read more or purchase MAKE on DVD here.
RASHEED’S DREAM FROM LEB LAZE OUT NOW
2011-07-21

Rasheed’s Dream
is a journey. Up until now it’s only been available Stateside in import form from Japan's Arepaz Records. Leb Laze, aka “Lebanese Lazer” and a Lebanese-American, crafted the album just after a move from Atlanta to Brooklyn. East to west, south to north, Rasheed’s Dream is movement. Dense, layered, lush, collaborative; it will give you cause to move.

Consider Rasheed’s Dream available right now. Buy it on Bandcamp for $8 here, or on iTunes here. Stream it for free below.

LEB LAZE TO DROP RASHEED'S DREAM ON JULY 18
2011-07-01

It took a lot to bring Ryan Rasheed to where he is now. A music-filled childhood including years of piano lessons, a busted Casiotone keyboard, Roxanne Shante in concert, George Clinton’s "Atomic Dog” on 12” and an older brother donned nickname, "the Lebanese Lazer"...all steps to where he stands now. Where is here. Which is Leb Laze.

On July 18th, we'll release Rasheed’s Dream. Originally released exclusively in Japan by Arepaz/RL66 Records, Ryan conceived Rasheed's Dream during his permanent relocation from Atlanta to New York. Though the album is firmly rooted in the distinct culture and pace of Atlanta, Rasheed’s Dream encapsulates a geographic shift from one city to another, from the South (Atlanta) to the North (Brooklyn).  All of the remixes that are included on this record are either from Atlantans or Southern expats living in New York.

More info here. You can download and hear the first single from the album below, or on SoundCloud here.
